Oatmeal, milk and honey (soap)
Tonight's dinner was just
bread, stilton and salad. Nothing to blog about really. So, after dinner I made another little batch of soap. Honing in on the final formulation I think.
Honey, milk and oatmeal soappalm oil, 340 g
coconut oil, 136 g
olive oil, 68 g
honey, ca. 30 g
oatmeal, milk and honey fragrance, 6 mL
milk, 125 g
water, 100 g
lye, 75 g
ground oatmeal, 1/4 cup
The fats and honey were melted and cooled to ca. 120F. The milk, fragrance and lye and water solution (cooled to room temp) was added to a large plastic pouring cup (ca. 2 L capacity). I stirred the mixture with my immersion blender and then gave it a few short blasts of the blender. Then poured the oatmeal in and gave it another several second immersion blender blast and poured the dark orange mixture into a plastic wrap-lined mold and covered the viscous concoction with plastic wrap. Within seconds, the mixture had thickened and I let it sit overnight.
24 hours later ...
I got a lot of liquid on the surface beneath the plastic. I think it's condensation and am thinking I shouldn't have covered it to let the heated batch vent. Too late. I removed the top plastic covering and I'll see if it evaporates over the next few days. This is at the risk of getting a layer of carbonate over the top. Keep you posted ...
